Stunning light sculptures illuminate Barcelona this christmas: A magical lighting experience

Barcelona lights up this Christmas, transforming into an unforgettable stage with its stunning luminous sculptures and large artistic figures. This year, the city takes the holiday experience to another level with innovative installations that combine art, sustainability, and technology, redefining festive lighting.

From Gran Vía de les Corts Catalanes to the Christmas Market at the Sagrada Familia, and including hotels, iconic buildings, and famous squares, Barcelona becomes a unique space where creativity and light create unforgettable moments for both locals and visitors.

Luminous artistic sculptures designed especially for christmas: Design and experiential lighting

One of the main attractions this season is the luminous sculptures created by renowned lighting designer Maurici Ginés. Inspired by children's puzzle games, these works feature large geometric shapes with empty centers that symbolize a space for wishes, hugs, and happiness.

These sculptures decorate the streets and invite interaction, becoming the perfect spot where families, friends, and children can gather, take photos, and share the Christmas magic on social media.

These sculptures, impressive in their scale, can be found in two key locations in the city:

  • Gran Vía de les Corts Catalanes: where the figures reach a height of 3 meters, standing out as major visual landmarks.

  • Sagrada Familia Christmas Market: with sculptures of 2.2 meters, which, though more compact, still captivate with their spectacular design.

Barcelona offers its own unique vision, focused on interactive art, citizen participation, and sustainable design, solidifying its position as a leader in modern Christmas proposals.

How These Luminous Sculptures Were Made

Artec Light Studio handled the design and concept of these artistic sculptures, while our experiential lighting team, #lumaliastudio, took care of fabrication, installation, and activation. Thanks to them, Barcelona now features artistic pieces that blend creativity, cutting-edge lighting technology, and sustainability.

Gran Vía and Les Corts Join the Highlighted Spaces with Christmas Lighting

You still have time to visit and experience these impressive light sculptures until January 6. Walking through the luminous sculptures of Gran Vía or Sagrada Familia is not just about enjoying decoration—it's about living an immersive experience that blends art, technology, and emotions.

Gran Vía and Les Corts add to the highlighted spaces with Christmas lighting, in a season that also offers special routes through the city’s iconic shops. Additionally, this year, the lighting will extend beyond midnight, allowing visitors to enjoy the Christmas magic for longer hours. With each passing Christmas, Barcelona strengthens its reputation as a city of creativity and innovation, offering an experience that no visitor will ever forget.

Another new feature this year is that the facades of hotels and distinctive buildings in the city will be lit up, including the Vallcarca Viaduct, Casa Golferichs, Masia de Torre Llobeta, and Torre de les Aigües del Besòs. In addition, routes through iconic shops in the Gothic Quarter and Raval will pass by establishments like Bar Marsella, Casa Almirall, and Café de l’Òpera.
