Founded in 1867 and with over 130,000 square meters dedicated to child and maternal health, Sant Joan de Déu Barcelona Hospital has carried out an impressive luminous transformation of its façade, establishing itself as a benchmark in architectural and technological design. Thanks to an advanced lighting and control system, the digital multimedia façade becomes an impressive digital canvas projecting dynamic and interactive light content, offering the city a unique and innovative experience.
This iconic renovation not only elevates comfort and sustainability standards but also redefines the urban landscape with structural and technological innovations. The implementation of cutting-edge materials and construction solutions has been key to improving the building's energy performance, ensuring excellent thermal and lighting behavior. As a result, more spacious, welcoming, and bright interiors are created during the day. This refurbishment has achieved a 30% reduction in energy consumption, improving the building's appearance and optimizing thermal management throughout the year. These changes not only enhance visitors' experience but also increase the hospital's visibility from Barcelona's southern entrance, both day and night.

The Sant Joan de Déu Barcelona Hospital façade becomes an experiential lighting surface, transforming and adding new dimensions of expression to its architecture. Its privileged location, elevated and facing the city of Barcelona, offers a distinctive and characteristic element to the city's sunsets and nights.
The original design and concept of the digital multimedia façade, as well as the production of the audiovisual piece, were directed and developed by the lighting design studio Artec Studio. Lumalia Studio was in charge of the manufacturing, engineering, installation, and execution of digital multimedia façade. The ProtoPixel platform has allowed for orchestrating and controlling the façade's lighting with an intuitive and open control solution. Together, they have created an advanced control and lighting system for this innovative installation. A unique technological solution with high visual impact, whose premise is to convey messages of reinforcement and positivity in line with the building's function.

Interactivity and content: From figurative to abstract
The content projected on the façade ranges from figurative to abstract, including playful elements designed for children, such as children's images, geometric shapes, and interactive games, which come to life in a symphony of light and color, capturing the imagination of patients and visitors alike. This innovative proposal not only enriches the building's aesthetics but also fulfills an essential therapeutic function. Abstract projections encourage reflection and tranquility, while playful elements offer distraction and joy, especially for the little ones. Thus, defined and concrete messages can be conveyed, emphasizing and highlighting significant days of the year through the use of color schemes appropriate to the occasion.
Advanced control and Lighting systems for modern architecture

The installation features a total of 320 digital luminaires from the Italian lighting manufacturer iGuzzini RGBW, ranging from 3 to 4 meters, distributed and integrated into the facade's structure to form an interactive multimedia matrix capable of creating an impressive variety of visual effects. It boasts over 12,000 pixels independently managed through the ProtoPixel control platform. This stunning interactive architectural facade sets new standards in sustainability and urban design, positioning Sant Joan de Déu Hospital in Barcelona as a pioneer towards a more technological and sustainable future.
