L\u2019illa Diagonal, the first shopping center built in Barcelona, is set to conclude an ambitious renovation by the end of 2024 with an investment of 35 million euros, marking an architectural milestone that will redefine the shopping, art, and cultural experience. The refurbishment encompasses both exterior and interior areas, to maintain its status as the reference point for fashion, gastronomy, and lifestyle in Barcelona. With a retail area of 35,000 square meters and 170 stores, L’Illa Diagonal annually welcomes around 14 million visitors. Additionally, it houses two four-star hotels, offices, two schools, a sports center, a nightclub and concert hall, a convention center, a public park, and a parking facility with capacity for over 2,400 vehicles.<\/p>\n

The renovation project of L’illa Diagonal has been spearheaded by the esteemed architecture firm Batlleiroig, to enhance user experience and adapt the shopping center to new needs and trends<\/strong>. This involves creating new green and sustainable spaces that foster the connection between people and nature. Alongside improvements in the external environment, new dining areas and rest zones were established, incorporating enhancements in architectural elements such as ceilings, flooring, and staircases. These alterations aim not only to sustain L’illa Diagonal’s relevance but also to enhance users’ overall experience, encourage interaction with green areas, and reinforce the connection between the interior and exterior zones of the complex.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n In collaboration with the renowned architecture firm Batlleiroig and the Lighting Artec studio, Lumalia Studio has brought a dynamic surface of 1,100 m2 to life. It serves as a testament to architectural integration and lighting design.<\/strong><\/p>\n The installation comprises over 200,000 pixels distributed in space and meticulously mapped to operate coherently through the reproduced content. The selection of RGBW LEDs offers extended color depth, and each element was custom-designed and manufactured for the installation’s purpose, including panels, LEDs, connection and distribution elements, and tensioned textiles, all to adapt and integrate with the space. The remarkable surface that hybridizes this concept between lighting and low-resolution screen comes to life through content specially designed for this solution.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n L\u2019illa Diagonal’s ceiling transforms into a captivating digital canvas, where abstract movements of light and color dance in harmony, creating animated skies that seem to come alive. The Northern Lights, with their captivating and mysterious allure, emerge as protagonists in this luminous narrative, immersing the environment in a hypnotic dance that transports us to landscapes oscillating between reality and imagination. Through shadow play, an immersive experience is achieved, creating various atmospheres that blend spectacle with subtlety and elegance.<\/p>\n This installation is a visual narrative highlighting the interaction between technology, creativity, and the architectural environment. The fusion of technical and artistic elements creates a unique experience, redefining how light can transform and bring life to a space.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The design and lighting concept was created and directed by the Batlleiroig architecture firm in collaboration with the Artec Studio lighting design studio, with audiovisual production designed by Trigelab. Meanwhile, Lumalia Studio handled the manufacturing, assembly, and installation of the digital canvas on the ceiling, with programming by ProtoPixel. Together, they succeeded in creating a new concept of dynamic lighting for this innovative installation integrated into the shopping center’s ceiling.<\/p>\n As part of this digital overhaul, L\u2019illa Diagonal has partnered with Iwall in Shop to modernize its digital circuit with large-format digital supports located in the mall, complementing the existing 25 opis.<\/p>\nA new concept of digital lighting integrated into the dynamic ceiling of the shopping center: a groundbreaking installation that redefines the notion of lighting experience.<\/strong><\/h3>\n
